Oakland Museum : Commissioned Projects by Richard Deutsch

Harvest was commissioned by patrons of the Oakland Museum of California in celebration of the museum’s 25th anniversary. Central to the composition is a granite plow and bronze castings of farm tools and machinery, including a tractor hood, a combine, plow discs, a tractor steering wheel, and a shovel – all from the 1900’s. In visually commemorating a stage of California’s agricultural history, the sculpture ties together the museum’s three areas of focus – art, history, and ecology.
